An unmedicated birth, a spiritual experience

Giving birth is amazingly hard to describe.

It is both a physical and a spiritual experience that changes you forever. I was able to have an unmedicated water birth using only midwives.  Hard? Yes. Affordable? Yes. Worth the effort? Yes.

Each day that I spent with my baby, I learn something new about her or myself.  Being a parent has many frustrations, however so few things have more value than how your child sees you. No matter what I am feeling, when she looks up and smiles at me, I know I am loved and needed.

Many people thought that I would stop writing as a new mom. While I have significantly less time to write, I am more motivated than ever to make my daughter proud and to provide for my family.

As my daughter’s grows, I continue adopting more natural parenting practices.

Crunchy: a mom who practices natural living. Advocates natural birth, non or selective circumcision, not vaccinating, baby wearing, breastfeeding, co-sleeping, cloth diapering, attachment parenting, homeschooling, organic and green living, etc.

Silky: a mom who bottle feeds part or full-time, uses disposable diapers, pro-circumcision, pro-vaccination, trusts medical professionals completely, don’t care too much about labels and buy most products out of convenience, homeschooling is not at all considered, and practice little or no green or organic living.

Scrunchy: a mom that wants her child to live in a more natural, organic environment, but can’t quite commit to all the activities and practices involved in being a crunchy mom. So she does some, but not all of it.

Definitions from voiceboks.

I am a scrunchy mom, and I am determined to give my daughter the best start in life.

How crunchy or silky are you as a parent?

Is there a goal you accomplished despite others thinking you would quit?
